Celtics roster due for post-lockout shakeup

With just six players under contract and as many as nine roster spots open, the Boston Celtics will most likely have a much different look next season.

The core group will remain intact, as starters Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen will all return to the team; Jermaine O’Neal and Avery Bradley are also signed through at least next season.

The team’s biggest free agents, according to Yahoo! Sports, are Glen “Big Baby” Davis and Jeff Green. The Celtics have the option to match any offer Green, as an unrestricted free agent, receives. Should the Celtics not bring back Davis, that would leave Rondo, Pierce, Garnett and Allen as the only players left from the 2008 championship team.

The Boston Globe, meanwhile, writes that Marquis Daniels, who played on the Celtics the past two seasons but suffered a season-ending spinal cord injury in February and was later traded to Sacramento, is an “intriguing free agent option” for Boston. His agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Daniels is healthy, working out, and ready to return.

Celtics rookie E’Twaun Moore has offers on table from international clubs

Boston Celtics rookie E’Twaun Moore is considering multiple offers to play overseas, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told the Boston Globe.

An earlier report said that Moore was close to a deal with Italian club Cimberio Varese, but Bartelstein said that’s just one of Moore’s options. The Celtics picked Moore with the 55th selection in the NBA Draft. He is not currently under contract with the team and is not on its payroll.

“We’re looking at some thing right now,” Bartelstein said to the Globe. “We haven’t made a final decision but we’re certainly having conversation. I wouldn’t deny (the report about Cimberio Varese) at all but we haven’t made a final decision on what we’re doing. We’re looking at some different things. We’ll make a decision if not today, the first couple of days of next week.

Caron Butler wants to be back in Dallas, agent says Mavs feel the same

Free agent Caron Butler wants to keep playing for the Dallas Mavericks once NBA basketball resumes, and the feeling is mutual, at least according to his agent. The Mavs, of course, are prohibited to comment on players during the lockout.

“He wants to come back to Dallas,” agent Raymond Brothers said, according to the Dallas Morning News. “And I don’t see any problem.”While Brothers said the Mavs have told him they want to sign Butler “for the long term,” the Morning News writes the team “may be more interested in signing Butler to a short-term contract to see how the knee holds up.”Brothers added, per ESPN.com, “After the championship was over, (team president) Donnie (Nelson) texted me and told me he wanted Caron to be part of the team long term.”
